9 and 10 year olds.
The children had images of a French horn. They drew what they saw. I asked them to make a copy of their drawing on card and cut it out. Some of the finer details had to be omitted.
I showed the children some images of futurism art where the image had been repeated which created movement.
They drew around the cardboard stencil they had made several times, each time moving it a little on the page.
They added colour using concentrated dye and cotton buds as the applicator. They had to work out whether to layer the colour of one French horn over the next or to keep them separate. The backgrounds are large pixels.
I took a risk for the remainder of the day and asked the children to create their own art using the stencil of the French horn and any of the materials that were available in the art room. We discussed possibilities. Some of their ideas were excellent.
