Flower Quarters... Matai Hub

Gretchen's lesson with 6 year olds.

I took a similar lesson yesterday with a class of 5 year olds. Today I aimed for more accuracy, colour combinations and care in assembling their work.

The children folded their page into quarters. This showed them where the centre was. The drew around a lid which was the basis for their favourite flower.

They used black wax crayon first followed by oil pastel colour. By using the wax crayon, it doesn't tend to smudge so much.

The children cut along the two folds creating four pieces. They stuck one down on their large page and went around the room, trading their other three for new ones.

It was an enjoyable lesson, with total engagement from the children.  And to make it even better, they look fabulous on display.

The 40 minutes we had remaining, the children made circle birds.
