Colour wheel and complementary colours with Ximena's GG

Carrie's lesson 5-6yr olds

This was a repeat of last weeks lesson (Maria's class) but the painting underneath the colour wheel was their chosen combination of complementary colours (opposites on the colour wheel).

I read the story 'Henri's Scissors' by Jeanette Winter which is a wonderful introduction to the life and work of Matisse. The children then cut out shapes from sticky back plastic to introduce a Matisse style border to their artwork.

We started the day with observational contour drawings of scissors. I think the continuous line helped
the children with their observation skills of overall shape. They were really interested to see what their
peers had done for this exercise.
