I gave the children a few tips on how to handle the clay.
- wrap clay in plastic clay if you're not using it.
- keep your hands cool by patting a damp sponge.
- join clay pieces by scratching the joining surfaces to resemble velcro.
- have fun
I showed them a few photos of little clay birds sitting down. I asked them to hollow out a ball of clay and turn it over. This made a base for their bird. Once the birds are fire, they can add embellishments and paint them.
After the children made their clay birds, they used strips of coloured card to make little hanging birds. I cut the card into strips and gave the children PVA to secure the coils.
