I was surprised how challenging this was for many of the children.
After our initial warm-up, making observational drawings of leaves, shells, seed pods etc, the children made an egg shaped template out of card. They traced around a round lid and added a curve at the top, creating an oval.
They used their template to make 2 or 3 over lapping egg shapes. They drew over the egg shape using white crayon. I gave them buff coloured paper so the white could be seen. They added pattern to their eggs, once again using the white crayon.
They outlined the white crayon with black vivid markers. This was the challenging part. The black lines had to be right on the edge of the white crayon and not cross over it. Once that was complete they could add colour to their Easter eggs using pastels.
