Carrie's lesson 7-8yr olds
We started our art day reading 'Old Huhu' by Kyle Mewburn to stick with the theme of bugs they had started earlier this term. After doing observational drawings of bugs and butterflies, we started preparing our oil pastel backgrounds for scraffito. I suggested colour blasts, like fireworks and once all the white card was completely covered, a thin layer of black acrylic was painted over this. These were set aside to dry until after lunch.
The next task was to create their own bug or butterfly, drawn in vivid and painted with watercolour. To make them pop out from their gardens, the children folded a concertina style pop out and stapled this to their bug.
The final stage was to scrape their garden designs into the scraffito board, with a focus on creating contrast with solid areas of colour and black; and then attach their bug.
