Carrie's lesson 7-8yr olds
We started the day looking and talking about a painting by Nicola Jackson, where she had used her self portrait and surrounded herself with insects and flora/fauna in a circle format.
Our observational drawing was a self portrait using small mirrors after talking about proportions of the face. The children then painted a paper plate with colours that they connected with, choosing either a landscape or shapes as a backdrop to their portrait. Next they chose images of bugs that they either liked or disliked so they could draw these and fit them around the portraits.
After cutting out and gluing all the observational drawing on the background, they were encouraged to think about the border and create a repeat pattern. Unfortunately, the stickers some of them used didn't stick well, so there are many missing dots!
There were some great comments at the end of the day 'Art Show', the class were really supportive of one another and gave great feedback.
