Hundertwasser Calendar Art - Koru theme M10

Carrie's Lesson

I had a wonderful day with M10 which started with some observational drawings of animals. I then introduced the artist Hundertwasser and we looked at the Koru flag he designed for New Zealand in 1983. The class worked on a Hundertwasser inspired design using coloured pencils, which included a koru shape. After this they went on to design and print a koru design over the top of their drawing (using polystyrene printing block). The children really enjoyed the process and most were very happy with their results.

Many of the children were really happy with their
drawings and were reluctant to print over these. I gave
them the option to print on a plain piece of paper instead.

We had two print tables set up with a choice of colours.

Guess who I am? M12

Carrie's lesson

We had a great day today creating characters for the 'Guess who I am?' game. I showed M12 the game I had brought in from home and then we discussed what we could do to create our own version.
We had everything from superheros, animals and people through to made up characters (these were a little more challenging to guess when they played the game!) We all had a lot of fun seeing the children guessing their character.

Carefully planning designs, then choosing watercolour, pencil or jovis to add colour.
