Wellington Icons K6

 Gretchen's lesson
6 and 7 year olds

We have been asked to enter work for this exhibition which is part of "Japan Festival Wellington".
The theme for the exhibition is 'My favourite thing in Wellington'.

In order to get the children to create something that was recognisable as something from Wellington, we brainstormed ideas of things that are strongly related only to Wellington. Our refined list included The needle, the cable car, Taputeranga, the windsocks, the bait shed and Westpac Stadium.

The children created rubbings as backgrounds, using was crayons and texture boards.

They drew their ideas using strong black crayon which they coloured using concentrated dye.

For their second piece which was the same subject, they cut their images out of coloured paper.

The children worked steadily all morning on their artwork.
In the afternoon they created individual geometric designs...very calming and therapeutic.
