Maths and Art Collide
The day started very calmly with observational drawing of feathers, one of my favourite subjects. I suggested that the children could make their feather more interesting if they separated some of the vanes.
With a short interlude outside for scheduled soccer instruction, the children worked steadily all day creating parabolic curves.
The idea that they needed to use accuracy was reinforced when the patterns became messy during practices.
They were very receptive to the idea of creating their own after their artwork was complete.
Some tried triangles which were great.
