Carrie's lesson 5 and 6 year olds
I had a theme of monsters, so started the day reading 'Where the Wild Things Are' by Maurice Sendak. I broke the day into sections so first we brainstormed what the head of the monster or wildthing might have, then moved onto the body (both drawn on coloured paper with oil pastels) These were cut out so they could be stuck onto a background.
After discussing background ideas which included forests and underwater themes, the class went on to draw and paint an A3 backdrop for their monster. I was impressed with their willingness to mix and create new colours with the water colour paints
