We started the day with observational drawings of shells, focussing on the spiral shape. I then intoduced the photographs of Karl Blossfeldt with examples of ferns and other plants. The class then had to design and colour a koru inspired image which was mirrored down the centre of the paper. Oil pastels were used for the colour then half of their design was painted with black acrylic, to enable the scraffito technique.
Some had very clear ideas of how and what they wanted to achieve, but others were more willing to go with the flow, modifying and changing their plan as they came up with more ideas
