Scraffito Koru Designs V5

Carrie's lesson

I introduced the class to the botanical photographs by Karl Blossfeldt, with an emphasis on koru/ spiral shapes. Using a resource sheet, the class had to come up with a design incorporating korus which was mirrored down the centre line. This was coloured with oil pastels with half of the design over painted black. After lunch they completed their designs using the scraffito technique, I heard one student say "its pretty satisfying scratching away paint" I encouraged the class to add extra detail on the scraffito side.

During the day the class also had an opportunity to work in clay. They designed and made either a medal or trophy for the current Olympics. I completely forgot to photograph these but they enjoyed working in clay.
