Maui Slows the Sun. K6

Gretchen's lesson
 5 and 6 year olds

Warm colours for the sun
Dye to complete the sun

Adding delicate tissue rays

The children had a length of wool each which they tied at one end to make a loop. Their partner held on end while they twisted the wool until it was quite well twisted. While it was still pulled tight between the children, one hand found halfway and folded the length in half and carefully let one end go so it twists the other way, making a "rope".
Twisting wool to create the rope

The completed suns

Cutting out Maui in the style of a tiki
The components are all put together to create the myth, "Maui Slows The Sun".
