Don Binney V6

Pastel blended background
cardboard relief

9 and 10 year olds

Don Binney's art is well recognised in New Zealand. He was passionate about our environment and interested in ornithology.
I showed the children several of his paintings and we discussed the balance between the sky, land and birds.
The children made sketches of birds and moved on to make cardboard reliefs of them.
They made crayon rubbings, using several colours and cut them out.
The backgrounds were made using black crayon, then pastels which were blended where needed.
