Zentangle Fish M13

8 year olds.

It's 'calendar art' time again. This is a fundraiser where the children make art that is offered to their parents to have turned into calendars, notebooks and cards.

The art is to be landscape only. It is surprising how many of our art experiences are not landscape.

Todays art could be a contender.

I used an idea I saw online. pinterest Thank you to the originator of this idea. The link went nowhere so I worked from the image I found.

The children made their name in letters that were solid. The practiced a few styles. They made an outline of a fish and put their name inside the fish. The detail is their take on zentangles. In almost every case the children chose to put zentangles in the letters rather than around.

Art Auction

My donation
My other one.

Previewing in the afternoon

A team of us have just finished holding a successful art auction to raise money for art and culture pursuits at our school.

Two days of hanging, labelling etc. Crazy stuff.

Check out some of the art we sold.

We began planning after Easter. We were a team of 6 until the last two weeks when we were an army of many. We ran a live auction of adults art in the evening alongside a silent auction that was online through "Trade Me".
I endeavoured to have a piece of art from every child (450 ish) on display for the night.

We loaded a facebook page to promote the auction.

We don't have final numbers yet, but two years ago we raised $17,000.

Shadow Puppets K6

5 and 6 year olds.

The children are inquiring into dark and light, back in their classroom.
We made a little cardboard dinosaur, with a joint so that it can move when the sticks are moved.
If you look closely, you'll see that the dino puppet can be removed from the page, to use as a shadow puppet.

Preparing the paper background.
The children made rubbings all over a page, using several different wax crayons. They covered this with dye.
Cutting the dinosaur puppet out of card.

Tracing around the dino to make the shadow.

Placing the shadow on the background.

Colouring the dino.

Ghost Ships V1

The 9 year olds began these ships last time they visited the art room. Some of the children became very elaborate and needed another whole week to complete their plan.

See HERE for a similar lesson.

NZ Flag V4

 9 and 10 year olds.

The selection panel for our new NZ flag would have been challenged given these designs to choose from. Many are crisp and well thought out.

No time to linger tonight as our 'Art Auction' planning is in full swing. Our auction is on Friday evening. There is a lot of ground to cover before then.
