Terra Cotta Army and Ming Vases. M13

Feathers, drawn with drawing and non drawing hands.

7 and 8 year olds.
The children are looking at ancient Chinese civilisations.
Today they began work on their Ming vases and terra cotta soldiers.
They will be having a second art day on Tuesday, to complete their art.
Ming vases
Laying down blue pastel in the shape of a Ming vase.

Painting with white acrylic.

Left to dry.

The idea has come from http://arteascuola.com But we have had problems. I tried gesso but it flaked badly. Even with detergent in it. So I tried white acrylic and even with two coats, the blue is still quite obvious. I have gone with the latter. They may be OK when the etching begins. Tuesday reveals all.

                                     Terra Cotta Soldiers
Wrapping clay around a newspaper tube.

Moulding the soldiers shape.
Soldiers with details added, ready to fire.

                                                                  Chinese Dragons
Beginning our Chinese dragon drawings.
To be continued...

  1. Non-dominated hand drawing can be so fun! Esp for those who find being 'loose' a challenge.... wonderful as always :)
