Beetles K8

 5 year olds.

There were many stages to the day (little guys can motor through the art), beginning with observational drawings of seashells. A lovely calm way to begin.

I gave them a little mirror so they could make a small picture of their face using black pens. I glued them around the page and photocopied it 17 times (one each).

On a page that would fit inside the portrait border, the children drew the black beetle using marker pen.
They tore pieces of coloured tissue paper to lay on the beetle.

Next were black beetle drawings on large sheets of brown paper using black wax crayons. The photos I gave them had reflected light on the beetles, so I gave them white crayons to include these highlights.
On a page that would fit inside the portrait border, the children drew the black beetle using marker pen.
They tore pieces of coloured tissue paper to lay on the beetle.

On heavy plastic squares, I punched holes around the edges and the children threaded wool through them.
They drew another beetle on paper using black crayon and painted them using water colour paint. They cut them out and stuck them on the plastic.

I forgot to photograph the art that was put inside the portrait border, which is what will be offered to parents as possible calendar art.

  1. Love the beetle sketches! The stitched borders are a great finishing touch and great motor skills for the little guys! Hope you are having a great school year! I am still on summer break for another week and a half! :)

  2. Thank you Mrs C. It was a fabulous day. I am envious of your Summer break. We are in the depths of Winter.
