Themed boats V2

The mess is all part of it.

Year 5/6, 9 and 10 year olds.

I showed the children how to draw up their own boat base out of cardboard. No templates!! I made the boat base in front of the children, two times. I left a half made boat for them to see.

They did it with surprising ease.

They glued a themed piece of paper on the inside and outside of the cardboard and made their boat up. They had a choice of music sheets, maps, comic strips, tissue or newspaper.
They made a seat with a hole in it for the mast, which was a straw. They used blue tac to hold the mast in place.

They made a sail or two, flags and string to tie it all down.

Go to the class blog to see photos of all the boats the children made today./art-day-with-gretchen.
