The intention of todays art lesson was to improve the children's cutting skills.
I found an excellent You Tube clip about Notan paper cutting. Notan is Japanese for light-dark harmony.
After watching it, I gave the children a little square piece of paper that was a different colour on each side. I had previously stuck two sheets together. Also a white piece of paper to stick their Notan to.
The children had a try at making a Notan paper cutting. We followed that with a discussion about the successes and difficulties they experienced.
Their second Notan paper cutting was larger and onto black paper.
