Cars K6

5 and 6 year olds.

The children were given images of cars. Their task was to draw their favourite car using black wax crayon on a large square piece of paper. I encouraged strong black lines.
We had a discussion about warm and cold colours. To make the cars "hot", they only used warm colours. The backgrounds were the opposite. They attempted to cover the page very well with the wax crayons, as they then scrunched the page up, to cause little cracks in the crayon. They smoothed the pages out and put red dye over the page. The little cracks get the colour.

They repeated the car drawing using pen on a smaller page. They could use coloured pencil or paint to add colour. These little cars were cut out and stuck on the correct side of the road (grey paper with road markings)
