What's inside our bodies? M11

6 and 7 year olds.

The children are beginning an inquiry into 'What's inside their bodies.'
I didn't think any of the organs were going to be great art subjects, so settled on the skeleton.
I had examples of skeletons around the rooms. The children began by drawing a skeleton in white wax crayon on white paper. They covered it with dye.

Next they practiced drawing a skeleton "doing something". They weren't to include the pros, like a ball if it was playing football. Rather the viewer could guess what it was up to.

They covered half a piece of paper with several layers of oil pastel. The children folded the other half over it and drew their skeleton on the outside with pen.

As a bonus, they practiced writing their names backwards then included it in the art.
