Santa's on his way. K2

5 and 6 year olds.
The children folded a page in half. They wrote top on the top half and bottom on the other. They also included their name. They turned the page over and used blue and green oil pastels to cover the bottom half. They used bright colours to colour the top.
In order to have success with scratch pictures, the page has to be well covered with either oil pastel or wax crayon.
The children painted over their oil pastel with acrylic paint that had a touch of washing detergent in it. This helps to prevent the paint from chipping off later.
While it dried, the children made observational drawings of reindeer.
The children used a plastic lid to scratch around with sticks and continued to scratch the paint off the earth. This is the bottom half…hence the significance of "bottom' &'top'.
The reindeer and Santa were scratched in the sky.
