'Meg and Mog' illustrations R9

6 and 7 year olds.
The class teacher requested a lesson on book illustration. I chose the 'Meg and Mog' series of children's books, by Helen Nicoll and Jan Pienkowski. I read a couple of the stories to the children, focusing on the three main characters and their special features. The children practiced drawing the characters using a black crayon on a large sheet of paper. I showed them a You tube of 'Meg, Mog and Owl'. During this, I asked the children to observe the background colours and horizons.
The stories also have little speech and thought bubbles.

I gave each child an A4 coloured page to draw their chosen horizon and to cut along it. They chose another coloured page which they stuck this to. Background done.

They thought about a scenario they wanted to portray and used black markers to draw their characters. They used white crayons for the owl and Megs face. They added a speech or thought bubble.
