henna hands

Henna designs.
Six and seven year olds.

The children made their own henna designs, which carries on with our multicultural art focus. They made a hand template which they copied onto coloured paper. They drew their designs on with a variety of drawing tools, depending on the colour of paper. They arranged their hands on coloured card, considering negative space.
They worked in groups of 4 or 5 to cover a large piece of paper with hands. I asked then to make the hands overlap which required a bit of thought for them to achieve. They added henna designs to the hands on top. This activity was a highlight for the children.

  2. Thank you Elizabeth. I find themes very motivating and in this case, quite challenging. One week of cultural art to deliver before our cultural evening.

  3. Hi Gretchen, really like these too. Especially the bottom two full of hands, are they a collaborative work?

  4. Thanks Joe. Yes, the conversations I overheard when these were being made were so positive and supportive of each other. I have used them as the background for the display in the hall.
