Pen, crayon resist and dye.
Six and seven year olds.
I tried a different approach to encourage cropping and enlarging a subject today with great results. I gave the children a 30cm x 30cm piece of paper to draw their dragonfly on, with pen. I asked them to make the wings touch the sides and the tail to touch the bottom and the feelers to touch the top of the page. They did this brilliantly. They cut their subject out and pasted it to their prepared background which was 30cm x 19cm. The background is several crayon rubbings covered in dye. I suggested hot and cold colours but several children had other ideas.
