Crayon and dye.
Five and six year old interpretation of 'The Four Musicians of Bremen'.

The Brothers Grimm fairy tale, was the motivation for this artwork. The text background was made by putting lines across the page with pencil. (No rulers) This is art, not maths. Words are written across the page continually, relating to the story, using crayons. Some children wrote sentences, others put single words, some repeated sets of words. Dark dye was washed over the page. The four animals were made using card and coloured pencils. The children were encouraged to create their own colours by layering. The cut out animals were stuck on the text background.
