Complimentary colours.
8 year old's response to Don Binneys paintings.
After viewing and discussing several of Don Binney's paintings of NZ landscapes and native birds, the children made their own, in his style. They drew their pictures in black crayon on one half of a folded A3 page. They held it up to the window and copied the drawing, resulting in a mirror image of the first. It could be photocopied.  Using primary and secondary coloured pastels, plus black and white for tonal changes, they added colour to their first drawing. The second drawing was coloured using the complimentary color of the first.
