Crayon etching.
Art by eight year olds.
To really appreciate the fine detail possible with this, zoom in. The subject is honey bees and flowers. The children apply layers of wax crayon, beginning with the lightest tones. Once the darkest has been applied, a sharp tool such as a kebab stick scratches the image. Discussing the size of the honey bee in comparison to the flower it is near, results in cropping the flower.
